Our Mission

Our programs celebrate land, community history and stories through a social justice lens, develop new resources and meaningful jobs, and preserve affordable housing for the generations to come.

Program(mes) and Projects

Fran O'Toole: The Man & His Music

To mark the 50th anniversary of his death Cuala produced a documentary about the beloved singer and songwriter who was on the verge of launching a solo career. The documentary was screened on July 31st, 2025, at a special event at the Mermaid Arts Centre in Fran’s hometown of Bray, accompanied by an evening of song to celebrate his life and music.

Community Folklore Project : Riis, Wald and Baruch Houses

We are excited to be gathering stories from Lower East Side NYCHA residents for a podcast series that highlights local voices and celebrates our community history. This project parallels the Inchicore Stories project that we carried out in 2022.

Jacob Riis Houses: The Land & Its People

In May, we hosted a screening of our most recent documentary; a feature of the historical Jacob Riis Housing Development in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

The event was a victory in gathering a community in the interest of shared history.
